Soil Sciences

The division aims at optimizing the organic production of annual crops with a focus on vegetable production. As part of the long term DOK Trial we look at the fundamental principles of soil fertility with a focus on carbon cycles and microbial species diversity. We are also interested in questions relating to biodynamic farming practices such as the use of the preparations in conjunction with fertilizer use and soil cultivation.
In the field of vegetable production we improve plant nutrition, for example by using green manures and mycorrhizal fungi. The development of the organic production of ornamental plants is a particularly topical issue. We also help to overcome the shortage of organically produced seed (www.organicXseeds.com) and support organic plant breeding.
