Project Outline

The causes of unsustainable agricultural practices in Europe are many and varied depending on ecological, social and economic factors considered from local, regional, national and international levels.

But the underlying cause in all circumstances is a lack of information regarding the real value of environmental functions and natural resources.
The development of agri-environmental measures requires an interdisciplinary approach that considers the complexity of the integration of the above fundamental issues in analysing agricultural sustainability (with particular reference to biodiversity and landscape conservation).

No study covering these themes and aiming for a comprehensive integrated outcome has been developed to date.

The project intends to cover these areas by confronting the scientific challenges of such an analytical study and the feasibility for practical implementation of its results. This requires considerable expertise and knowledge of the scientific interdisciplinary context and the economic, social, ecological, historical, cultural and institutional realities of the countries involved.
