Description of the project:
Project aims
As a consequence of the latest scandals and cases of fraud
and according to the new annex III of the EU regulation 2092/91
and the regulation 178/2002, all the players of the organic
sector are currently engaged in the issue of traceability.
In contrast to other EU member states no data base system has
been established so far in Germany.
Existing systems or systems currently under development to safeguard
the origin of a product are going to be presented in the course
of the project and systems used for both the organic sector or
the non-organic sector are going to be checked.
As a result, the requirements concerning a traceability system
are going to be outlined. Furthermore the prerequisites for the
development of a central traceability system respectively for
the further development of an existing system into a central
one, will be demonstrated.
In a second phase a standard of data shall be developed, which
will enable the exchange of data between existing data bases
or the transmission of electronic data to an addressee together
with the product.
In the preliminary stage of the project a research has been
done in order to find out which of the existing standards of
data are relevant to the companies involved in the organic sector.
These standards shall be considered in the development of the
standard of data for the traceability and safeguarding of origin
of organic products.
Another step will be the development of the standard of data.
As a supplement of a basic standard, further standards relating
to certain types of products shall be created. Besides the product
groups of cereals and vegetables, which are going to be analysed
in the two pilot projects of Bioland Beratungs GmbH (Bioland
consulting Ltd.) and Naturlandmarktgesellschaft (Market Ltd.
of Naturland-Enterprises South-East), standards for three more
product groups shall be developed. The standards will be developed
and agreed on by the members of a network who have met two times
in 2004 and will meet five times in 2005.
The results of the project will be communicated in project organised
activities, publications and through the participation in professional
events arranged by other institutions.
