Sustainable fruit system, pesticide-free apple production

Many studies are available on conservation and enhancement of natural enemies in apple orchards by habiat management (wildflower strips and hegdrows). Other sutdies focus on the effects of augmentative releases of biocontrol agents. Both strategies can significantely reduce infestation pressure with different pest insects; however, a reduction of pest insects below the economic treshold is often not possible. In order to combine and compare the positive effects of both strategies an experimental orchard (1ha) was planted in winter 2006/2007.
