Seed health

Securing of organic seeds and propagating material: Imrpovement of seed health in organic vegetables

Seed borne diseases cause great damage in many organic vegetables. At present, physical treatments (e.g. vapour, warm water, brushing, electrons), plant-based products (mustard powder) and living organisms (e.g. Pseudomonas chlororaphis) are being tested or already in use.

This project supports the production of high quality, healthy seeds. On one hand, we look for methods and products to control seed borne diseases in some key crops. On the other hand, we support practitioners with diagnosis (determination of pathogens and disease attack) and extension (preventative measures, procedures in case of attack).
