Complementary training manuals for organic agriculture in the tropics

In 2004 IFOAM and the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) published a first training manual for organic agriculture in the Tropics (the Basic Manual). It immediately found wide acceptance. Now, FiBL and partners of the organic movement in the tropics completed two complementary training manuals, one for the arid and semiarid tropics and one for the humid tropics.

The training manuals contain case studies of organic farming systems, describe successful organic marketing initiatives and offer guidelines for the main crops of the respective geographic and climatic conditions. With the informative text, the transparencies and the didactical recommendations the training manuals offer a resource basis for trainers with the idea of encouraging individual adaptation and further development of the material according to the needs. Each CD contains the complete information in English, French and Spanish.

The training manuals were commissioned by IFOAM and funded through its programme “IFOAM-Growing Organic II” (I-GO II) and the Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO).
